For being nowhere near an ocean, their sushi really isn't that bad. There's never a wait and their portions are excellent. The yaki udon is delicious if you like a big streaming plate of brown, which I do!

Decent meal... I always leave a sushi joint not full. Took some time to sedate the hunger. Had gyoza, spicy salmon & California. Sushi rolls felt smaller than those offered in normally bigger cities. Likewise decent flavor abd okay presentation. They serve Chinese and Japanese cuisine.

I'm not a health food nut. But I love the atmosphere and am told it is delicious. Their fried jalapeño roll is amazing.

Very good food/Sushi a hidden gem in bfe. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the staff struggles to understand my order (English)

Best sushi in North Platte! I come here quite often and it's great every time. They have a huge menu, so there is a lot to choose from. They don't only have sushi, so if sushi isn't really your thing they still have something for you too! Only down side, sometimes the service is a little slow.

We we're just passing through town and wanted something different than burgers and pizza. This was a very nice restaurant with friendly servers. Their tempura and egg foo young was phenomenal. They do both Japanese and Chinese. Would highly recommend even though it's a bit off the beaten path. Open on Sunday too.

If you're looking for sushi in North Platte, this is your place. Lots of options and plenty of good ones. They have a couple great chicken dishes as well. The Volcano Chicken and Seasame Chicken are good. Go with the volcano if you're not sure.

I was passing through on my way to California and read the other reviews. This place is amazing. I had a bento box and Rainbow roll. The teriyaki chicken was a little saltier than I am used to, but the Rainbow roll was great!

We were pleasantly surprised to find this place among a sea of pizza and diner food. They deliver too which is nice, got edamame which was very fresh. Yummy veggie udon and fried rice. Came with miso soup. Not greasy at all. Good place to order into room if you are sick of fast food.

The only Japanese in North Platte, but pretty damn good! Sushi is fresh, gyoza's are delicious and their chicken teriyaki is amazing!

We can still taste the oil they fried the supposedly "lightly battered" tempura in. Even the soup and the salad were disappointing. My husband said the only good thing was the white rice! Granted we live in Omaha where we are spoiled by the quality of our restaurants but we would not recommend this place.

I must agree that the tempura was good. I'd skip the nebraska roll which is sushi roll with beef in it and it seems to have been flash fried and hot sauce on top. The quality of the raw fish is good considering the area. So next time I know to stick with the tempura ! :)

I used to really love this place when I lived here. I remember when they opened their doors, and I was a regular customer of theirs. I gotta say, being in the middle of the United States, I think this is a pretty good thing. It's not the worst I've had, but if you are well versed in the palate of sushi tasting, you probably will walk away feeling a little disappointed. But if you live here, I can see why you'd come here.

I have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants and I rank Tempura way up there. I don't know about their chinese menu but the tempura is very good. The owner is friendly and accessible and the staff is always helpful. Definitely worth the stop. Try the Nebraska rolls!

I've been to this place a number of times. I've always had great service & food. The staff is so nice. I get a hug each time I go. I've had sushi in CA, DC, Kansas City & NYC. I think this place is just as good, especially when u consider it's in the middle of NE.

Like I've said before, I'm a sushi snob. They have pretty good sushi, especially for North Platte, NE. The owners came from San Fran so they know city life sushi, and I still go every time I'm in North Platte (which is about once a week or more) because I need my sushi fix. Some rolls are outstanding and better than others, I'd say the 4 stars include the outstanding service. They are always excited to see me walk in and I get a hug every time. I've brought quite a lot of my NCTA students to introduce them to sushi here and they've found out sushi wasn't bad. I wish we lived in Lincoln as there's an awesome sushi place there to introduce them to, but Tempura will do. I'd recommend trying it out if you haven't already.

While traveling my boyfriend and I spent the evening in North Platte and found this little gem off the web. My boyfriend was very skeptical as he's an extremely picky eater and loves his sushi. We were both very pleased with the food and the friendly staff. We enjoyed the Cali rolls, hamachi, tako, and miso soup . We also had a roll with tempura jalapenos and crab but I can't remember the name. All were great, but the tako did have a bit of a strange after taste. The portions were a bit small but the price was very reasonable. If ever in the area again we'd definitely go back.

My family and I were passing through North Platte and stopped here for dinner. I was pretty skeptical of a sushi restaurant in Nebraska, but this place surprised me. Based upon its location I have given it an extra star which bumps it up to 4. The place: It was clean, spacious (maybe too much though) and it has a cute fish pond at its entrance. The service was friendly and attentive. The food: Over all, I found the food to be good. I have been to sushi restaurants that far surpassed this one, but considering its unlikely location (Nebraska) it is doing a great job and has potential. I would return. Specifics: I'll start with the best thing first. The Crispy Jalapeno Roll. Amazing and highly recommended! I will think of it every time I get sushi because I doubt I'll see it anywhere besides here. It had jalapeno, red snapper, cream cheese, and had a tempura batter. It had wonderful flavor and the tempura was just right. Next is the miso soup. It is good (how can it not be?) but it is a little boring. The salad is nice with a tasty dressing. We ordered a tempura appetizer, which I found to be bland. It tasted mainly of fried batter. We had some egg rolls that I wasn't too enthralled with. I couldn't quite put my finger on why though. It may have been that the inside was too mushy as if the ingredients had been cooked too long. And lastly there was the avacado roll. That was very disappointing. It had too much rice which made it very mushy. I may be mistaken on what is typical of an avacado roll, but I believe they generally have a little carrot and cucumber mixed in which gives it some texture. Perhaps that would be considered an avacado cucumber roll though? I don't know. Overall I say check the place out. If you are a local who isn't bothered by sushi then you will enjoy it.

Perfect stop on my road trip from California to Nebraska eating various foods throughout the trip. I was getting tired of eating American/Mexican/fast/etc. food. I had the Nebraska roll (beef w/ sriracha roll) & the Sexy Roll. Both rolls were cooked (just to be on the safe side since I had a long drive left). There were a few other rolls and meals the group had. It was a nice change from the normal food we were eating during our trip.

4 stars - it would have been 5 for local if the service hadn't been a little slow. Food was good and freshly made.

After three weeks in the Midwest we were in withdrawal and had to have some Japanese or Chinese or ....anything beyond burgers , barbeque and fast food. We followed our cell phone map away from the interstate for a few minutes to this outpost of Asian food. Very reasonably priced and good. Friendly and attentive staff and a wider selection than we expected. The tempura was excellent, and as could be expected in this area of beef production, my beef dish was good. Salmon dish was not overcooked and our sushi makki rolls were just right. Everything was fresh and tasty. This place is as good as either of my neighborhood Japanese restaurants in San Jose. And the staff here is much nicer.

Great food! Friendly service! Clean! Delicious! Amazing to find in North Platte.

The owner of this place was making sushi and he sure was a nice guy. He said business was OK, but wishes it was better. I have to give this place some props, because it is the only place in town to get sushi. They have Chinese food on the menu as well. I got a few rolls, but can't say that they were that good. It was sushi though, and It solved my craving for Japanese food. The yaki-soba that I got was more like lo-mein and almost mushy. I wasn't to happy about that, but if I lived there I would definitely go back, because I really wouldn't have any other choice. Staff is friendly. Ambiance is nice. The restaurant is clean. Food could use a little work, but how can they, if business, isn't that great. It was worth going to as I was tired of eating American food.

the sushi is great!! don't be afraid, i have eaten here several times in the past 5 years and keep coming back! the service is fantastic! prices are fair and they even hooked us up on an apetizer! they also have plenty of beer to choose from, and also a little more "tamed" menu for those who don't like sushi.

We travel quite a bit and we were surprised to find such an authentic Japanese restaurant in North Platte, Nebraska! The menu offered an overwhelming number of Japanese dishes, at reasonable prices. Service was excellent. Our meals were all delicious with ample portions, and all came with miso soup, rice and a small salad. The sushi was fantastic, as well. The kids enjoyed their meal, and especially the green tea ice cream (some of the best we've tasted) The next time we travel through Nebraska, we will definitely come back to Tempura Japanese Restaurant!

I have been into sushi for some time now and I was blown away when I tasted their sushi. They rival some of the way more expensive places I've been to. The craziest part of it all is that they're in North Platte. They also have Cooked food, but I've never tried it out, always the sushi. Prices are fair and service is great, be adventurous and try something different people of NP!

The shrimp tempura lunch was delicious. If you're a heavy eater, it won't be enough for you, but it was perfect for me. It was served with a small salad and miso soup. The very simple rice vinegar dressing on the salad was delicious. Went back for dinner and had the chicken curry. My only wish would be to have onions added to the dishes. I would definitely go back for the tasty, crispy tempura.
